365 Days – Day 2

“Mary, this is Donna. I’m running late this morning.” And so the saga continues…

The farrier came this morning to give my mares their pedicure. I’m so glad I finally found a DEPENDABLE farrier. Not only does he show up when he says he will, he’s even on time, and does a great job, at a price I can afford! Thank you for sending him my way, Barb! Dessa has bad thrush in one foot (as if there were such a thing as GOOD thrush…). It’s been a desert out here all summer and after about 3 downpours in one week, she gets thrush. Go figure.

I was able to secure the most coveted parking spot in the parking lot this morning (which was odd because you’re usually lucky to get a parking spot at ALL if you’re late). This spot is affectionately referred to as “the tree.” For the better part of the day, it is the only parking spot in the shade, save a couple of handicap spots. And once someone claims it for the day, it is highly unlikely they will give it up before time to go home. They will walk to lunch, bum a ride with a co-worker, eat a frozen diet entree or not eat at all before they will give up their day’s claim to “the tree.” Southerners are a ruthless, self-centered people. Especially in the summer when it’s HOT.

My boob itched for 3 hours this morning. I googled it. Still have no idea what that means. Maybe it didn’t mean anything except that perhaps it was just a flea bite.

I’ve opted (as much for your benefit as for the benefit of my own vanity) not to torture you with a picture of myself every day. Unlike the lovely young artist who inspired this project, I’m not quite so attractive. Thus today, I’ve chosen the beloved “TREE” as my image for Day 2. It’s hard to make such a photo as this very interesting, unless perhaps you’re showing it to a bird in search of a nice place to build a home and raise a family. But I will not guilt myself about this. After all, the point of this 365 Day Project is not to produce award-winning photos, or even an award-winning essay, but simply to record my day. And the harsh reality is, that sometimes, scenes like this are about as interesting as my days get.

I lied to you last night. I did not complete my workout as stated. In fact I skipped it altogether. I had, after all, worked out 5 out of 7 days. When I wrote it, I had every intention of doing so, so it’s not like I lied on purpose. But I must come clean with my audience. 365 Days is all about being REAL. And sometimes I lie. Not often, and usually, never intentionally, but it does happen now and then. At least I don’t make a LIFESTYLE out of it. Perhaps if I can at least be honest about it, I can partially redeem myself. I WILL workout tonight. I haven’t done so yet, but I fully INTEND to.

My mother made spaghetti for us today. I love spaghetti. It was whole grain spaghetti with a low glycemic value, 93% lean ground round and an all natural, organic, heart-healthy sauce. Probably would not have been too bad if I had been able to stop with just one helping…

I took on yet another project today (WHAT is the MATTER with me lately?!), The Sketchbook Project: 2011 from the arthousecoop.com. Dana from work told me about it. She and Jenny are both doing it so I will at least have a couple of partners in crime while undertaking this challenge. I’ve always wanted to keep a sketchbook but have never been quite disciplined enough to do it. I really do NEED more discipline in my life. I tend to be a bit flighty and easily distracted. I’m really quite creative, but most of my creativity is hidden beneath a pile of rubble which has accumulated because of my difficulty to maintain a steady focus. I’m quite capable of focusing to the point of obsession at times. Problem is, I’m not good at harnessing that ability and using it at will. Most of the time, I feel like my creativity is using me, rather than the other way around.

I ordered 3 books from Amazon today (I LOVE Amazon): Wreck This Journal, How To Be An Explorer of The World: Portable Life Museum: and Living Out Loud, all by Keri Smith. I have a weakness for books. There is something almost magical about a book. Whenever I go shopping for books, I always buy way too many. I must continually remind myself that I can only read 4 or 5 at one time effectively, therefore I should never buy more than 6 at one time. (That wasn’t intended to sound logical.) It just feels so good to walk out of a book store with a bag full of books, or to get a box full of books in the mail. I’m such a dweeb.

I’m rambling. I need to go work out.
